Ongoing Mega Projects
 
Life Sciences Park, Trivandrum
 
KSIDC proposes to develop a Life Sciences Park at Trivandrum, in line with the proposal mentioned in the industrial policy. An extent of 260 acres of land in Veiloor Village has been identified for the purpose, and KSIDC is in the process of acquisition of this land for the project. The Life Sciences Park, when functional, would be a geographic cluster of industry ( Biotechnology, Nanotechnology & Life Sciences), research institutions and sci-tech academia. The Park would address the needs of the rapidly emerging life sciences industry and is expected to attract investments, both domestic and foreign, in the related areas.
 
Electronic Hardware Park at Kochi
 
KSIDC has initiated steps for setting up Electronic Hardware Park at Kochi. The proposed Electronic Hubs would be developed in 500 acres of land, offering world class facilities for manufacturing, contract manufacturing, R&D and fabricating units in the electronic sector. The Hub would house companies in the semiconductors and electronic components sector, including their manufacture, research and development, design, etc. The land acquisition procedure has been initiated.
 
Petro-Chemical Complex
 

According to a market survey conducted by M/s. Industrial Development Service Pvt. Ltd. (IDS), New Delhi, there is good potential for setting up a project for utilizing the Propylene available with Kochi Refineries Limited. In this context, KSIDC has developed a proposal for setting up a Propylene-based petrochemical complex in the state. The estimated investment for setting up the above project is Rs.700 Crore. KSIDC is in the process of preparing the feasibility report along with a co-promoter, M/s. M-far Group, and M/s. Oman Oil Company, Oman.

Besides these, KSIDC is also facilitating the implementation of the following major projects in the State:

 
Titanium Sponge Project, Kollam
 
Govt. of Kerala proposes to set up a Titanium Complex in Kerala consisting of a Titanium Sponge Plant of 10000 tons per annum capacity, Titanium metal and downstream products. The proposed plant will be located adjacent to the Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd. (KMML), Chavara, a Govt. owned company producing Titanium products. An extent of about 300 acres of land has been identified for the project.
 

High Speed Rail Corridor Project

The Budget Speech 2009 of Government of Kerala envisages the establishment of a North-South High Speed Rail Corridor (HSRC) in Kerala, which is expected to develop as the 'lifeline' of Kerala, would move passengers and cargo in fewer hours from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram and also from Palakkad to Ernakulam. KSIDC will be the Nodal Agency for developing and implementing the project. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be assigned the task of conducting pre- feasibility study on the project. The total length of the two rail corridors will be around 900 km and will have two parallel tracks each in standard gauge systems, which will be independent of the existing rail network in the State. Starting with highest speed of 200-250 km/hr initially, trains with speed up to 400 km/hr are expected within 2-3 yrs of commissioning of the project.

Pravasi Gramam Project

Pravasi Gramam is a project initiated by Government of Kerala in recognition of the rich and invaluable contributions of the Non Resident Keralites (NRKs) in the economic and social development of the State. KSIDC has been appointed as the nodal organisation to develop and implement this project. This project aims at providing the NRKs and their succeeding generations with a channel to maintain cultural and social linkages with Kerala and is envisaged as a self-contained and well laid village representing a replica of Kerala in terms of its culture, traditions, art forms, lifestyle, etc along with facilities and infrastructure most sought after by the NRK community. KSIDC has been identified 337.57 acres of land situated in Edava and Ayiroor Villages of Chirayinkeezh Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district for setting up the project.

 
Thermal Power Project, Cheemeni, Kasaragod

Govt of Kerala, vide Govt order GO (MS) No.19/2009/ID dated 07..02..2009, have appointed KSIDC as nodal agency for development of thermal power project at Cheemeni, Kasaragod, A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with 50:50 equity participation by KSIDC and KSEB is being formed shortly for development of the power project. An extent of 2000 acres of govt land would be utilized for the project. KSIDC has commissioned consultants for carrying out DPR and EIA studies. It is proposed to implement 1320 MW coal based and 1200 MW gas based power project with a project outlay of Rs. 12350 Cr.

The project would be developed through a private developer selected through tariff based competitive case II bidding guidelines of Govt of India. The process for selection of developer will be initiated in June 2010 and it is expected that private developer could be selected by end of March 2011.

Oceanarium, Kochi

KSIDC has been appointed as bid manager for selection of consultants and private developer in connection with the development of Oceanarium project at Puthuvypeen, Kochi. M/s FIRMA, agency of Dept of Fisheries, Govt of Kerala will act as nodal agency of the project. KSIDC has appointed consultant for preparation of Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) and preparation of bid documents towards selection of private developer.

The project is to establish the latest generation underwater world aquarium housing numerous marine creatures along with research facilities. The project is first of its kind in India and conceived as a tourism and marine research facility to tap tourism potential in the State.

As per the DFR, the total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 350 Cr. The bidding process towards selection of developer will commence in July 2010 and private developer for the project would be selected through a transparent bidding process.

 

LNG Terminal, Kochi

As the State's Promotional Agency, KSIDC has been instrumental to facilitate establishment of the LNG Terminal at Kochi. The Terminal is being implemented by M/s. Petronet LNG Ltd, a joint venture of ONGC, GAIL, IOC and BPCL. Capacity of the LNG Re-gasification Terminal in the 1st phase is 2.5 Million TPA, which will be enhanced to 5 Million TPA in the  2nd phase. The location is inside the Cochin Port SEZ at Puthuvypeen, Kochi. The project aims to supply Regasified LNG (R-LNG) to various customers in sectors like power, fertilizer, industrial sector and for City Gas Distribution (CGD) in the Southern States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with the pipeline infrastructure is in place.

The project, which has an estimated cost of USD 700 Million in the 1st phase has 3 major components, viz., Storage Tanks, Marine Facility and Re-gasifcation Facility. 2 Nos. of Storage Tanks with a total capacity of 5 Million TPA are under construction in the 1st phase itself and this work is undertaken by M/s. IHI Corporation, Japan. The Marine Facilities are established by engaging M/s. Afcons Infrastructure Ltd and Re-gasification facility, by M/s. CTCI, Taiwan.

Implementation of the project is fast progressing. The Mechanical Completion of the Terminal is scheduled in December 2011 and the Terminal is expected to be commissioned in March 2012.

GAIL Pipe Line Project

KSIDC has signed an MoU with M/s. GAIL India Ltd, a' Navaratna' Central PSU to facilitate establishment of Gas pipeline in the State of Kerala. GAIL proposes to lay Gas pipeline from the Kochi LNG Terminal to various bulk consumers of Gas in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. GAIL plans to lay the pipeline in the following routes, for supply of R-LNG from the Kochi Termainal.

  • Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Pipe line (KKBMPL) Project
  • Sub-Sea Gas pipeline from Kochi to NTPC, Kayamkulam

The project will be implemented in 2 phases. The 1st phase is expected to be completed in 2012 and the 2nd phase in 2013. The total project cost is estimated at IRS 37,000 Million.

City Gas Distribution (CGD) Project

KSIDC has signed a JV Agreement with GAIL for promoting a Joint Venture Company (JVC) to develop CGD Projects in Kerala. It is proposed to create the Supplementary Gas Infrastructure in the State by the JVC. The JVC intends to facilitate supply of CNG for buses and other end uses, with due approvals from the Competent Authorities.

Trade & Convention Centre at Kochi

KSIDC intends to promote a Trade & Convention Centre at Kochi by joining hands with FACT. FACT will provide 30 Acres of land for the project at Udyogamandal, Kochi. KSIDC has signed an MoU with FACT for promoting the project. The facilities planned include a world-class Convention Complex with Main & Mini halls and supporting facilities and a Trade & Exhibition Centre with adequate built-up space to conduct various Trade Fairs. The Complex also intends to accommodate 5 Star category hotel, Commercial Complex, large parking space and auxiliary facilities.

The Detailed Feasibility Report for the project is under preparation. A suitable Developer will be selected through a competitive bidding process for implementation of the project, shortly.

International Container Transhipment Terminal at Kochi

An International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) is being developed at Vallarpadam, Kochi as the first Transhipment Terminal in the country. The project is coming up on 115 hectares of land at Vallarpadam Island with an initial investment of IRS 2,200 Crores. 1st phase of ICTT will have 1.2 Million TEU capacity with 600 Mtrs. of berth. Super Post-Panamax Gantry Cranes, Mobile Harbour Cranes, Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes, etc. will be installed for transhipment operation. In the final phase, the capacity will be increased to 3 Million TEUs and with 1800 Mtrs. of berth. 18 KMs Four Lane road from Kalamassery and 8 KMs electrified rail line from Edappally will be established for connectivity for the ICTT. Kochi is slated to transform into the transhipment hub of South India with the establishment of ICTT at Vallarpadam. The Terminal is expected to be commissioned in August 2010. The project will give a boost to development of an array of logistic centres with Container Freight Stations, Trade & Warehousing Zones, Cold Storages, Transportation Systems, etc.

Industrial Corridor

The Kochi-Coimbatore, Kochi-Kasaragod Industrial Corridor is designed to utilise the existing infrastructure and new projects like LNG Terminal, ICTT Vallarpadam, LNG Pipelines and High Speed Rail Corridor. The vision of the project is to create strong economic base with global competitive environment and state of art infrastructure to activate local commerce, enhance foreign investment and attain sustainable development. The project is conceived to be developed as a global manufacturing and trading hub supported by world class infrastructure and green technology. The goals of the project are to double the employment, industrial output and exports within a period of 5 years. The RFP for consultancy and pre-feasibility study will be issued immediately. The first phase of the project proposes to start the corridor with 5000 acres of land in the Kochi-Coimbatore route. The project would be implemented through an SPV which would coordinate project development, finance and implementation.

National Institute of Warship/Submarine design & indigenization centre by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) at Beypore, Kozhikode

The proposal is to set up a full-fledged National Institute of Warship/Submarine design & indigenization centre, and anciliary facility, by Ministry of Defence and Defence shipyards with Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL) as the lead shipyard. MDL has requested the Govt. to take necessary steps to allocate 100 acres of contigious land with sea frontage at the Chaliyam side of Beypore Port, in three phases. Presently, Government has 41.0 acres of land with the Revenue dept. and 5 acres additional accreted land. Steps have been initiated to transfer the land on long lease to MDL.

Convention centre and Tourist Resort, Kozhikode

KSIDC plans to set up a Convention Centre and Tourist Resort at Cheruvannur in Kozhikode District. Kozhikode has an International airport, IIM, NIT etc and Private and Government sponsored Cyberparks are also coming up. In view of these developments, KSIDC proposes to establish a Convention Centre and Tourist Resort in 6.50 acres of land in a picturesque location by the side of Chaliyar River at Cheruvannur.

Kuttiyadi Coconut Industrial Park

Kuttiyadi, the land of Coconuts in the Northern part of Kerala is an ideal location for setting up a Coconut Industrial Park wherein Private, Co-operatives, Public Institutions and Individuals can set up Coconut based Industries. As part of the Constituency Development Programme, Govt. have entrusted KSIDC with the task of Industrial Development in Meppayyur Constituency. KSIDC have established the potential for setting up a Coconut Industrial Park whereby the people will get an economic upliftment through hike in their earnings from Coconut trees through the production of value added products.

The Kuttiyadi Coconut Park is to be located in 131 acres of land in the Manimala Estate in Velom Panchayath about 6 Kms. from the Kuttiyadi town. The Coconut based Industrial Complex including a Coconut Wood based Power Project is also proposed in the Park. Here, each and every part of the Coconut tree will be industrially processed and put to maximum economic benefit in general and value addition in particular, to the mankind.

The Kuttiyadi Coconut Park Ltd., a new Company is under incorporation with 50% equity participation by Govt./KSIDC and the balance by private investors. The total expected investment will be around Rs. 41 crores in the first phase. The Coconut Development Board (CDB) is also associating with the Project with Rs. 12.75 crs., an equivalent contribution of the GoK. The Project is expected to be commissioned by Dec. 2011.
