Kerala Export Promotion Policy
The Importance of an Export Promotion Strategy for Kerala
Kerala’s Export Promotion Strategy underscores the government’s dedication to maximizing the state’s export potential. This strategy highlights the critical role of collaboration among industry, government, and academia in fostering innovation, boosting productivity, and promoting sustainable, inclusive growth. Through carefully crafted strategies and initiatives, the policy aims to empower exporters, explore new trade opportunities, and establish Kerala as a prime hub for global business partnerships.
- Kerala’s economic growth is driven by a diverse range of sectors, including tourism, healthcare, IT, food processing, spices, rubber, Ayurveda, electronics, handlooms, apparel, coir, seafood, and traditional crafts such as wood carvings and designer jewelry. The state is a powerhouse in India, producing over 70% of the country’s natural rubber and contributing significantly to national exports in cashew, spices, tea, marine products, coffee, and coir.
- International trade, based on the principle of comparative advantage, generates employment, provides economies of scale, and brings in much-needed foreign exchange while offering a variety of goods to consumers. Although the central government addresses key trade issues, the state government’s initiatives are equally crucial in enhancing exports and invigorating Kerala’s industrial landscape and economy.
- In this context, the State Government has resolved to develop a comprehensive roadmap to facilitate and support the growth of exports, aligning with Kerala’s ongoing economic progress.
